Guides may choose to allow Improvement Rolls at any point during a game session, only when not in combat, or hold off until Downtime.
If not using immediate Improvement Rolls, then the Adventurer may accrue more than the minimum experience needed.
If so, then consider subtracting the experience needed for the Improvement Roll from the Adventurer's accrued pool, instead of resetting the pool to zero.
Optionally, Guides may allow extra accrued experience to translate into +1 bonus to the Improvement Roll for each extra Experience Point above the minimum needed to make that attempt.
Guides may advise Adventurers to resolve the Improvement Rolls for Gradual Experience during the Adventurers' downtime.
Adventurers need to track both the Experience and weeks of downtime spent on Improvement.
The improvement takes effect once the Experience and weeks of downtime improvement accrue to the needed levels.
Guides may set aside a small at the start of a Session to review and celebrate improvements.
Guides may advise Adventurers to resolve the Improvement Rolls for Experience Levels during the Adventurers' downtime.
However, Guides may plan story events around experience level improvements.
Celebrate milestone-based progress within the Sessions rather than during Downtime.
Plan encounters and events to clearly signal to the Adventurers that they have improved in some measurable way such as completing guild tests, receiving blessings from trainers, certificate ceremonies, or succeeding at previously failed actions.
Spent Experience Points convert directly to Reputation or Renown.
