Many technological advancements rising from the Space Age (TL-1) of the 1960s fueled Human expansion from Earth outward, eventually reaching the Niecti star system setting for Salvage Space.

This timeline lists a few key advancements for each Technology Level milestone:

TL0 Information Age 1970s-2020s

  • The first Low Earth Orbit (LEO) outposts: Salyut, Skylab, Mir, I.S.S.

TL+1 Synthetic Age 2020s-2100s

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI), Androids
  • Synthetic Intelligence (SI), Synthetics, Clones, Replicants
  • First offworld outposts: Moon, Mars, Asteroids

TL+2 Stellar Age 2100+

  • Fusion
  • Fusion-based Span Drive (system drive)
  • First extrasolar survey missions launched

TL+3 STL Interstellar Age

  • First Extrasolar Colony
  • Slow Expansion / Human Colonization Era
  • Human Colonization Expansion / Contraction cycles

TL+4 Massless FTL Age

  • Successful “Zero Time” experiments
  • Successful “Negative Space” experiments
  • First Interstellar Communication / Transmission

TL+5 Mass FTL Age

  • Jump Stations (massive energy requirements)
  • First Jumps (unmanned then manned)
  • Farspan Drive (intersystem drive)

TL+6 FTL Interstellar Age / Present Day

TL+6 FTL / Era 1 Exploration

  • Initial surveys performed by colonization corporation under colonial lease
  • Alien ship graveyard found in BD +40-45

TL+6 FTL / Era 2 Exploitation

  • Colonial corporation fails to keep the discovery secret
  • Frontier “gold rush” for alien artifacts
  • Piracy galore
  • Colonization corporation overrun by competitors before Navy can intervene

TL+6 FTL / Era 3 Extermination

  • Navy finally clamps down but the damage is done

TL+6 FTL / Era 4 Expansion

  • With a semblance of security from the Navy, trade expands

TL+6 FTL / Era 5 Enhancement

  • As the system settles - civilization, sophistication, adventurers, and drifters increase
