RUNNING SALVAGE

Salvage Operations

LICENSED?
Will the operation obtain a license for legal salvage or not?
Will this operation salvage a previously claimed vessel or search and claim a new derelict?

CREW
Who will handle the ship?
Who will handle the salvage search?
Who will handle the initial survey security and sweep?
Who will handle the scientific assay?
Who will handle the salvage rigging?
Who will handle the retrieval or tow?

EQUIPMENT
What do the Adventurers need to do the job?
Where will they get it?

VEHICLE
Basic transport?
Salvage tug?
On-site breaker?

Using a basic transport requires the team to provide other means to move the derelict to the breaker yard, such as remote thrusters or a remote-operated mule/tug, while escorting the salvage back to port.

Using a salvage tug requires physically rigging or docking the vehicles together.

Using an on-site breaker requires the most specialized vehicles which temporarily acts as a fixed station while other vehicles ferry salvaged finds back.

This requires crew rosters with different skills depending on means of retrieval.

TARGET / RADIAL
Where is the salvage target?

In science-fiction settings, plot the locations of derelicts among asteroid belts or planetary rings using the degrees around the orbit from an arbitrary start point or zero degree mark, and a distance from an arbitrary center point.

The Salvage Space setting for Chronology calls these degrees based locations “radials”.

For example, a wreck located in the Kasama Inner Asteroid Belt, at 110 degrees from Niecti zero meridian would be described as 110 at 2.04×10^8, or 110 degrees from zero at a distance to 204 million km from system center.

BREAKER YARD
Who will handle the disassembly?
Who will handle the security during disassembly?
Who will handle the scientific assay during disassembly?

SHARE STRUCTURE
Who gets how much of the salvage value?

What could go wrong happen before the team ship out?

EVENTS DURING FLIGHT OUT
What could go wrong happen during the flight out to the salvage site?

EVENTS WHILE ONSITE
What could go wrong happen while the team is onsite?

EVENTS DURING RETURN FLIGHT
What could go wrong happen during the return flight?

EVENTS DURING BREAKDOWN
A job isn't over until its over.
