SPECIAL EFFECTS (SFX) UNRELIABILITY
Special Effects (SFX) abilities grant the ability to “break the rules”, but may be finicky or unreliable.
To activate or use an SFX ability, such as crafting a magical spell, exercising a metahuman power, or unleashing a psionic ability, roll for Degree of Success similar to a Skill check.
SFX based on Attribute Scores start with the Degree of Success equal to that Attribute Score.
Roll 2d6-2d6 and apply any modifiers described by the Guide to find the final Degree of Success.
Apply any SFX costs, such as loss of Attribute Reserves, regardless of success or failure of the attempt to use the SFX ability.
