Going a step beyond purely physical techniques, martial arts embodies key attitudes and thought modes driving the use of the physical techniques.
Styles may focus on unarmed or armed techniques.
Styles may take years to master, piece by piece, many through formal courses of study and practice ranked by a graduated advancement system.

- Jujutsu
- Shaolin Kung Fu

Techniques
Each style focuses on developing, improving, and using specific attitudes, stances, movements, blocks, strikes, grapples, and (optionally) equipment to achieve their desired goals.
☐ ATTITUDES (INTELLIGENCE)
☐ STANCES (AGILITY)
☐ MOVEMENTS (AGILITY)
☐ BLOCKS (DEXTERITY)
☐ STRIKES (DEXTERITY)
☐ GRAPPLES (STRENGTH)

As the martial artist studies and trains, their available techniques within these seven areas increase.

Complications and Adaptations
Traditional martial arts styles evolved for use in a one-gravity field before spaceflight developed.
Humanity moving into space complicated and altered many forms of martial arts.
Martial arts practitioners adapted styles to the various gravity fields found on spacecraft, stations, moons, and other worlds.
Techniques for one gravity range may not suit use in other gravity.
Adventurers must consider the difference in effects for zero-gravity, partial, full, and excessive gravity.
Centrifugal forces caused by common spin gravity techniques also alter the choices and effectiveness of martial arts styles and techniques.
Vacuum changes martial arts combat significantly as well since goals and movements while pressure suited differ from those useful in shirt sleeve environments.
Adventurers may practice martial arts styles adapted to specific conditions but find themselves unable to use them or only able to use them at a disadvantage in other conditions.
