SALVAGE SPACE: RACES
Building, tuning, and racing their machines for speed, endurance, and agility shows one of the many ways human competitiveness leads to non-lethal conflict.
Race Courses
Race courses combine a number of different types of obstacles to create places to test racers judgment and different aspects of the racers' abilities and skills.
Race Events
Racing established courses may involve track days, or running laps during downtime to prepare for race events.
Races may require qualifying laps before allowing racers to enter and participate in race events.
Racing
During the race event, each racer negotiates each obstacle of the course among and in competition with the other racers.
Different racing circumstances require successful use of different Attributes and Skills.
- Racing While Mounted: Awareness / Animal Handling
- Racing Animal-Drawn Vehicles: Awareness / Animal Handling
Extended duration or distance races may test navigation, endurance, and field repair skills beyond simply operating the machine itself.
Successes
At each obstacle, the placement of the racers in the field demands choosing tactics and positioning to help advance through the field to the head of the pack.
Racers accumulating successes choosing successful tactics, negotiating obstacles and other races, and performing maneuvers may place at the finish.
Failures
At each obstacle, misjudging tactics, or failing to successfully execute maneuvers may cause the racer to fall behind other racers or miss opportunities to advance.
Racers accumulating failures may also suffer vehicle failures, injuries, crashes, and fail to finish much less place.
